The Bush administration and its allies (notably the UK and Israel governments) have been planning to attack Iran as early as spring 2007. It is not surprising that yet another fabricated pretext is being used to set it up.

Were the 15 British sailors who were captured and detained by Iran involved in a criminal espionage operation, in Iranian waters, in the process of setting up a Gulf of Tonkin-style pretext for war? Or were they captured by Iranian forces in Iraqi waters (as claimed by London), as a defensive political maneuver, in response to American and British covert provocations that have been ongoing for months, and continuing to escalate?

Russian official says US will be ready to strike Iran in April

A report filed today by the Russian News agency RIA Novosti indicates that Russian intelligence has information that the U.S. Armed Forces have nearly completed preparations for a possible military operation against Iran, and will be ready to strike in early April.

Citing "a security official, the article alleges the U.S. had already compiled a list of possible targets on Iranian territory and practiced the operation during recent exercises in the Persian Gulf. The report aligns with previous reports by The New Yorker and RAW STORY surrounding buildup towards a possible strike.

This week the BBC reported that the government's own scientists advised ministers that the Johns Hopkins study on Iraq civilian mortality was accurate and reliable, following a freedom of information request by the reporter Owen Bennett-Jones. This paper was published in the Lancet last October. It estimated that 650,000 Iraqi civilians had died since the American and British led invasion in March 2003.

Immediately after publication, the prime minister's official spokesman said that the Lancet's study "was not one we believe to be anywhere near accurate". The foreign secretary, Margaret Beckett, said that the Lancet figures were "extrapolated" and a "leap". President Bush said: "I don't consider it a credible report". More...

911: Can You Handle The Truth?

9-11 is one of the most infamous days of our current time. Many people experienced the events of that day with surprise, shock, sadness, and anger. I am one of them.All of these emotions clouded my judgment until I early on discovered an entire, very credible counter culture for lack of a better term that from almost day one has researched and opposed the official government story parroted by the mainstream. This counter culture that involves people and experts from all walks of life has been mostly unable to get an honest spirited debate in the mainstream without being labeled nut cases and anti-American. Why is this?

WTC Blueprints Leaked by Whistleblower
Unseen documents show official investigations used flawed construction details

A whistleblower that was on a team working for Silverstein Group in 2002 has made public an extensive set of detailed architectural drawings of the World Trade Center, that prove beyond any doubt that the official reports into the collapse of the towers misrepresented their construction.

The documents were passed to physics Professor Steven Jones, formerly of Brigham Young University, who has done extensive research into the collapse of the buildings and contends that explosives were used to bring them down.

Little is known about the identity of the whistleblower at this point, however the blueprints provided consist of 261 drawings included detailed plans for the North Tower (WTC 1), the World Trade Center foundation and basement, and the TV mast on top of the North Tower.

Iran ‘to try Britons for espionage’

FIFTEEN British sailors and marines arrested by Iran’s Revolutionary Guards off the coast of Iraq may be charged with spying.

A website run by associates of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, the Iranian president, reported last night that the Britons would be put before a court and indicted.

Referring to them as “insurgents”, the site concluded: “If it is proven that they deliberately entered Iranian territory, they will be charged with espionage. If that is proven, they can expect a very serious penalty since according to Iranian law, espionage is one of the most serious offences.”

O'Reilly exposed his own agenda to simply denounce everything any critic ever says as being wrong or untrue, by suggesting that Ms Taylor claimed the government has tortured children by crushing their testicles. O'Reilly went on to denounce Taylor as an unpatriotic and accused her of slander.

It was clear to anyone with half a brain that Taylor was referring to comments previously made by Bush attorney John Yoo, co author of the PATRIOT ACT and various controversial torture advocating memos. More...

The Media's Castration During the Bush Presidency

The obligation of the media is to represent the people by serving as its watchdog over government. The bedrock of democracy is an educated, knowledgeable populace. As such, free press informs the public, holds leaders accountable, and provides a forum for debate of local and national issues. Freedom of the press is therefore a non-negotiable, fundamental prerequisite for a functional democracy.
But since 2000, in the most secretive, media-hostile administration in our nation's history, the mainstream media has been neutered like a six-month old Labrador. It's allowed the Busheviks to rape the constitution with impunity, making a mockery of our sacred rule of law and turning the United States into a near Monarchy. As anyone who watches a White House press conference can attest to, the press fears speaking out against Bush, who has gotten a free pass for six years now despite having a presidency wrought with lies, corruption and miserable failure. When they’re dissembling, they’re lying

Kevin Drum summarized the White House’s principal political problem with the purge scandal extremely well today.

They’ve now had nearly two months to come up with a simple, clear, understandable explanation for why they chose those eight to fire but not the others. So what is it? And why has it taken such an interminable amount of internal chaos to come up with something?

People aren’t stupid. If there were a simple, innocent explanation we would have heard it in January. The fact that the president of the United States held a press conference eight weeks after this issue first hit the media and still didn’t have a plausible story to tell suggests pretty strongly that there is no plausible story to tell.

It’s an important point about this scandal, which is probably helping drive the media’s interest. The White House, and its vaunted communications office, has had eight weeks to come up with a plausible explanation. What have we heard? The Bush gang said a purge like this is normal and routine. It wasn’t. They said Clinton did the same thing. He didn’t. They said the U.S. Attorneys serve at the pleasure of the president, which is true, but doesn’t offer any substantive explanation why these specific U.S. Attorneys had to go. More...

When I was a boy in the 1950s attending Hebrew School in Philadelphia, we would receive little cardboard folders with slots for dimes distributed by the Jewish National Fund. On the cover was a picture of a tree being planted by handsome, tanned people in shorts. When the card was full, you sent it in and in return received a certificate with your name on and a bigger picture of a tree, which was the tree you had planted in Israel. It was fun and it was a thrill – I was reclaiming the homeland. I saw pictures of kibbutzim and orange groves filling the valleys and dreamt of going there someday.

Four decades later, now a middle-aged man, I saw pictures of Israeli bulldozers uprooting three hundred year-old olive trees and Jewish soldiers restraining Arab villagers crying hysterically over the destruction of their groves. I traveled to the West Bank – Israeli occupied Palestine – and saw the hillsides denuded of trees to build concrete Jewish settlement cities. I saw Arab houses leveled and gardens taken to make way for a 30 foot-high concrete wall cutting through Palestinian cities and village fields. I saw that this was wrong. Bush bans Rove from testifying under oath

US PRESIDENT George Bush and the Democrat-controlled Congress are heading for a major constitutional confrontation after Mr Bush said he would refuse to allow Karl Rove, his closest political adviser, to testify before a congressional committee investigating the sacking of eight US federal attorneys.

Mr Bush said the threat by senior Democrats to subpoena Mr Rove and former White House counsel Harriet Miers to explain their roles in the sackings was an attempt to set up "show trials".

On Tuesday evening, President Bush backed his beleaguered Attorney General, Alberto Gonzales, and defended a White House offer to allow "behind closed doors" testimony by Karl Rove and Harriet Miers regarding the firing of eight US Attorneys. Bush said that he would block any efforts to subpoena White House officials.

In his address, Bush proclimed his administration's disclosure of an "unprecedented" number of documents showing how the firing of those U.S. attorneys was handled. He went on to defend that process.

Russia denies setting Iran ultimatum on uranium enrichment

Russia on Tuesday denied US press reports that it had threatened to withhold nuclear fuel for Iran's Bushehr nuclear plant if Tehran fails to meet UN demands to suspend uranium enrichment.

"I can tell you that the report is not accurate, that there has been no Russian ultimatum to Iran of any kind," Russian Ambassador to the UN, Vitaly Churkin, told reporters.

Iran says to sell oil in 'every currency'

"Our oil sales will be in every currency," Dow Jones reported Hamaneh as saying on the sidelines of an OPEC meeting in Vienna on Thursday.

Khalid Shaikh Mohammed's alleged confession testimony has been thoroughly discredited after it emerged that one of the targets he identified, the Plaza Bank, was not founded until 2006, four years after the alleged Al-Qaeda mastermind's arrest.

In his confession, KSM claims, "I was responsible for planning, training, surveying, and financing for the New (or Second) Wave of attacks against the following skyscrapers after 9/11: ...Plaza Bank, Washington state."

KSM was arrested in March 2003. According to the Plaza Bank's website, the organization was founded in early 2006, making it impossible for KSM to have even known of the bank's existence before 2003, never mind plotted against it.

Skepticism about the legitimacy of KSM's confession has gushed forth from all quarters, leaving the credibility of the Pentagon and the process of military tribunals in ruins and provoking additional questions about why the alleged Al-Qaeda mastermind admitted to involvement in such a vast range of plots. In his speech to the AIPAC convention yesterday, Dick Cheney laid out his thirst for literally endless war -- and his equally intense aversion to war-avoidance -- as unabashedly as can be. The towering question which America faces is whether it wants to continue to embrace this bloodthirsty and truly crazed vision (which many leading presidential candidates seem to share), or whether we want to repudiate it fundamentally. This is what lies at the core of Cheney's world view:

An enemy that operates in the shadows and views the entire world as a battlefield is not one we can fight with strategies used in other wars. An enemy with fantasies of martyrdom is not going to sit down at a table for negotiations. Nor can we fight to a standoff -- (applause). The headlines on Al-Jazeera’s website on March 9, 2007 were unexpected and powerful: "Saddam Judge Flees Iraq." Raouf Abdel-Rhaman, the judge who sentenced Saddam Hussein, as well as Barzan al-Tikriti and Awad al-Bandar, to death, has left Iraq and has applied for political asylum in Great Britain. Before I get to the absurdity of this cowardly act, let’s look at the trial over which Abdel-Rahman presided.

The first trial of Saddam was for signing death warrants of 148 people in Dujail.. They had a three-year comprehensive trial and were found guilty of treason and attempted assassination. At the time, the Iran-Iraq War was raging and those who tried to kill Saddam were Iraqis fighting on the side of Iran. Many fled Iraq and stayed in Iran until the aftermath of the illegal March 2003 invasion of Iraq by the U.S. More...

Cheney tells AIPAC that Congressional antiwar strategy is 'undermining' US troops

During an address to the 2007 policy conference held by the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) in Washington DC, Vice President Dick Cheney said that Congressional members who are pursuing an antiwar strategy aren't "supporting the troops; they are undermining them."

After joking that "if Karl Rove finds out about this, he won't let me out again," Cheney told AIPAC members that they "play a vital role in making the strategic and moral case for America's friendship with Israel."

The vice president then spoke of the "mind-set" of terrorists.

"Civilized, decent societies will never fully understand the kind of mind-set that drives men to strap on bombs or fly airplanes into buildings, all for the purpose of killing unsuspecting men, women and children who they have never met and who have done them no wrong, but that is the very kind of blind, prideful hatred we're up against," Cheney said. Maxine Waters Cuts Through Iraq Spin

Congresswoman Maxine Waters (D-CA) appeared on Fox Sunday with Chris Wallace this morning to discuss her Iraq proposal. As usual, he hurled the same tired talking points at her and, as usual, she stands her ground. When asked the inevitable, "What message does it send the terrorists if we cut and run" question, she replied:

"Well, I think cut and run is a kind of language that has been used by this administration and others to intimidate those of us who are responding to the American people's desire to get our soldiers out of Iraq. Our soldiers are dying every day. Civilians are dying by the thousands - uh, in Iraq. I just don't want to wake up one morning to find that they have bombed one of our compounds and hundreds of our soldiers have been killed."

Waxman to Rice: Answer 11 ignored letters on Iraq claims

The Chairman of the House's Oversight and Government Reform Committee today demanded that Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice respond to 11 outstanding requests for information sent by his office since 2003. The letters primarily concerned claims later proved erroneous on the threat posed to the United States by Saddam Hussein's government in the run up to the Iraq War.

Rep. Henry Waxman (D-CA) warned Dr. Rice that a failure to respond to his committee's inquiries undermined Constitutional governance.

Blair 'exercised spin' to justify Iraq war, says chief weapons inspector

The British Government replaced question marks in its Iraq war dossier with exclamation marks, claims Hans Blix

Former United Nations chief weapons inspector Hans Blix accused Tony Blair today of "exercising spin" in the run-up to the 2003 Iraq war.

Mr Blix told Sky News that the Prime Minister and those involved in compiling the Government's dossier on Iraq which was used to justify the war had "exercised spin", replacing question marks with exclamation marks.

Asked if Mr Blair had acted in bad faith, he said: "I do think they exercised spin. They put exclamation marks instead of question marks.

"There were question marks but they changed them to exclamation marks. And I think they got the political punishment for that.

"They lost a lot of confidence. Both Bush and Blair lost a lot of confidence."

As the man at the centre of the most high-profile political scandal for years, Lord Levy has enjoyed precious few public expressions of support in recent weeks.

But yesterday the peer found comfort in the form of his many allies in London's Jewish community as a succession of voices claimed that a witchhunt against him was being fuelled partly by anti-Semitism.

Sir Alan Sugar, the Amstrad tycoon and hard-hitting star of the reality television series The Apprentice, said he feared that Lord Levy would be made a "scapegoat" in the police investigation into the cash-for-honours affair.

The famously outspoken businessman claimed that some attacks were being made in newspapers with a record of being "negative" about Jews and Asians. "I think they rub it in when either the Asian or the Jewish community get themselves into some form of trouble," he said.

Lord Levy's rabbi, Yitzchak Schochet, writing in The Jewish Chronicle, denounced "the blatant nastiness in some of the tabloids and the recent seeming trial by media". More...

Blair's legacy: Hundreds of thousands dead, Britain less safe

Is there a causal link between British military intervention in the Muslim world and terrorism by Muslims in Bitain? That is a vital question. After all, the government is never done telling us that it is the first duty if government to keep us safe.

Yet, the Prime Minister cannot bring himself to admit the existence of such a link, even though the British intelligence services say:

"We judge that the conflict in Iraq has exacerbated the threat from international terrorism and will continue to have an impact in the long term. It has reinforced the determination of terrorists who were already committed to attacking the West and motivated others who were not."

Libby: "Fall Guy" For The Real Criminals

While Scooter Libby faces sentencing after being convicted of four counts of perjury and obstruction of justice, the figureheads of the US and British governments will see out their terms despite voluminous amounts of more damning evidence that proves they have consistently plotted and lied to sell an illegal occupation to their respective populations.

As Editor & Publisher reported, a spokesman for the jury that convicted Libby told reporters immediately afterward that many felt sympathy for him and believed he was only the "fall guy."

Denis Collins said that "a number of times" they asked themselves, "what is HE doing here? Where is Rove and all these other guys....I'm not saying we didn't think Mr. Libby was guilty of the things we found him guilty of. It seemed like he was, as Mr. Wells [his lawyer] put it, he was the fall guy."

He said they believed that Vice President Cheney did "task him to talk to reporters."

The jurors who convicted I. Lewis “Scooter” Libby believed Vice President Dick Cheney’s former chief of staff was set up as a fall guy, a juror said Tuesday, but they had no alternative to finding him guilty in the leak of the identity of a classified CIA operative.

“I will say there was a tremendous amount of sympathy for Mr. Libby on the jury,” said the juror, Denis Collins, a former newspaper reporter.

“It was said a number of times: ‘What are we doing with this guy here? Where’s Rove? Where are these other guys?’ ” Collins said, referring to Deputy White House Chief of Staff Karl Rove, who was identified during the investigation as one of the senior officials who revealed the identity of the operative, Valerie Plame, to journalists.

News 24 'timestamp' video disappears from Google Video, despite the fact it's under 30 seconds in length and clearly constitutes fair use, Digg lets small minority of morons decide its content

The crowned kings of censorship Google have "pulled" the News 24 "timestamp" video that shows the BBC reporting the collapse of Building 7 26 minutes before it happened. Meanwhile, the establishment media continues to ignore the WTC 7 farce as a whole, including the inconceivable notion that BBC World have mysteriously lost all their 9/11 footage.

Despite the fact that the clip is under 30 seconds in length and clearly constitutes fair use, Google yanked the video last night after it was prominently featured in our article yesterday. We have replaced the video with a You Tube composite of both the "Jane Standley" footage and the News 24 clip, but for how long this stays active remains to be seen. More...
